Shane Lowry remains in contention at the RBC Canadian Open, while Rory McIlroy has missed the cut after a nightmare second-round 78.
Lowry is four shots off the lead in Toronto, having carded a two-under 68 on day two to sit eight-under overall.
USA’s Cameron Champ has moved into the lead, 12-under for the tournament following a round of 66.
Andrew Putnam went lowest today with a 62, to sit two shots behind in second.
Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen, Canadian duo Richard Lee and Nick Taylor and Victor Perez are one further back.
And Lowry is in a six-way share of seventh, another behind on eight-under.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox and USA pair Jake Knapp and Sam Burns, Cristobal Del Solar of Chile, and Italian Matteo Manassero join the Offaly man at the time of writing.
Lowry started on the back nine today, bogeying the 10th before shooting birdies on holes 13 — sinking a 32-foot putt — 15 and five amidst a steady round. He opened with a six-under 64 on Thursday.
McIlroy had work to do to make the weekend cut after a disappointing opening 71, and things went from bad to much, much worse. The 2025 Masters champion double-bogeyed holes five and 11, while further shots were dropped on the eighth, 10th, 13th and 17th. Birdies on the 15th and 18th couldn’t spare his blushes on a day to forget.
Seamus Power withdrew during his first round on Friday.
